LINZ 2019 RECAP
Italy (Ruta/Oppo) and Germany (Rommelmann/Osborne) got out to fast starts and led Spain by nearly a length at the 500, with Poland, Norway, and Ireland trailing. McCarthy and O'Donovan of Ireland picked up speed in the second quarter of the race, moving into third about a half length back of both Germany and Italy. Ireland continued to move in the third 500, and took a lead of half a length at the 1500 over Italy, with Germany in third and Norway close behind in fourth. At the line, Ireland broke open water to win the gold, with Italy taking the silver over by half a length over Germany. Norway, Spain, and Poland finished fourth, fifth, and sixth respectably.

2021 SEASON RECAP
WORLD CUP I
Rommelmann and Osborne of Germany won the A Final in Zagreb over Switzerland, however Germany were the only crew qualified for Tokyo racing in the event.
EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Irish double of McCarthy and O'Donovan kicked off their 2021 campaign with a nearly two second victory over a strong field in Varese. Germany took the silver, Italy the bronze, with Czech double finishing fourth.
FOQR
The two qualification spots for Tokyo were won by Canada and the Czech Republic.
WORLD CUP II
Ireland again dominated the middle stretch of the course in Lucerne, winning gold by nearly three seconds. Norway won a close race for the silver, holding off Germany and Italy with Belgium coming in at fifth.
WORLD CUP III
Norway defeated Italy by 0.17 seconds in what was essentially a dual race in Sabaudia.
USA PROSPECTS
No USA entry qualified for Tokyo Olympic Games.
MEDAL PICKS
Ireland are the favorites to win the gold, but they will be hotly pursued by a group of very strong doubles looking to knock them off the top spot on the podium. The three crews with the best shot are Germany, Italy, and Norway, with Belgium, Canada, Poland, and the Czech Republic also in the mix for the A Final.
